Phriday photo quiz #10
For the first time, I knew this was gonna' be a quiz when I took the picture.
=)
Who probably did this? Specifically the large rectangular hole, probably about 8 inches long.
Photo taken at the Mariposa Grove in Yosemite NP.
And, just for fun, here's another "head shot" of the same tree:
It's such a face! =)
So, set your brain to "puzzle" and let me know what you come up with. Of course, the answer is biological...

P.S. I just drafted a garden update: what's happened in the last 10 days? Coming soon... =)

its gotta be a woodpecker of some sort.
ReplyDeleteit looks to be a burned area, possible bark boring beetles invaded the tree and a happy Piliated woodpecker came along to devour the gallery of juicy grubs by digging in through the bark
ReplyDeleteMy vote is Pileated Woodpecker as well.Cheers
ReplyDeleteWow, everyone. I am SO IMPRESSED! 1) Meredehuit nails the woodpecker thing within 30 minutes of my posting it, 2) Anonymous gives a SO much more (and probably totally accurate) answer than I ever intended, getting the species totally right, and the Harold backs up Anonymous and is spot on.
ReplyDeleteAmazing!! (in other words: Ding Ding Ding!!! You are correct!!)
