This morning's breakfast companions.
Three, all mit fuzzy antlers. Bear later said, "Oh, there's four!"
A recent evening, minutes after lights out,
I heard the WEIRDEST noises.
Clearly an animal, but I couldn't imagine what.

CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH!
I insisted Bear accompany me downstairs to look,
and voila, the bachelors three,
munching leaves under this tree.
I'd trimmed said tree several days before,
and lazy bones that I am, left the branches there,
and the leaves dried out--it's hot and dry here.

So, every time one of the 12 hooves landed,
CRUNCH!
For every bite taken,
CRUNCH!
CRUNCH!

CRUNCH!
("ooh, do I smell French toast?")
Nice rack, eh?
Note chicken exiting stage left...
It was early, so shots are fuzzy (it was kinda dark).
Yet another stressful morning in the sticks...
*sigh*
=)

The black-tail deer around here love the brown crunchy leaves that the buckeyes drop in the summer. I wonder if their flavor changes when they drop. I guess I could try it myself. It looks like your mule deer are already starting to shed their summer coat.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what it is about seeing deer. A sense of well-being always comes over me. Very nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You're very fortunate to live there.
ReplyDelete(though as a gardener I have to say----eeesh!)
