    I wonder if the red gall is a swafly - if it is a willow, then quite likely.

    1. Oh, nice, Dave. I looked it up (in my beloved field guide to galls, yum!), and sawfly IS what looks most like it. And this plant probably was a willow--it was RIGHT on the edge of the Yosemite Creek. I believe you are correct, sir!

    that poor tree...caught between a rock and a hard place...oh yeah, caught between 2 rocks...uh, boulders!
