    I'm back working on my project, though, so haven't had a chance. Might start tomorrow with a local-ish guide, then check out things that entomologists have recommended re: grasshoppers and crickets, even if they are for up north. We'll see!

  4. Woo hoo!!! DING DING DING! We have a WINNER! =) Yes, MObugs, it's a gopher snake, Pituophis catenifer (http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/p.c.catenifer.html) and probably subspecies catenifer, based on where I found it. It's a LOVELY creature. And now I get to put up more pictures of it. =) I'll have to post this elsewhere, too. Good work.
