What WAS I doing? PHOTO QUIZ PHRIDAY phieldwork phun...

Just got this photo from a USGS friend & figured I'd share it

'cause it initially confused ME, staring at the me of years ago,

wondering what the h I was doing.

Then I remembered & laughed.

So, WHAT do YOU think I am doing?

Based on presence of chamise, I think it's one of the Navy sites,

near Cabrillo National Monument, in San Diego,

my employer at the time (hence kickin' NPS ballcap).

Based on the buckwheat, it's fall.

Per usual, any and all (family friendly) guesses (in comments) are greatly appreciated,

whether fueled by decades of wildlife experience,

or just a bowl of sugary cereal & NO clue.

And please forgive me for showing a photo where I am SO COOL in blue coveralls. =)

Don't hate me 'cause I'm stylish.

The reward for the most accurate guess & most creative guess is:

Steeping in the Glory of Your Own Genius

I will post the answer next week, and winning guesses.

=)

Birdy photo quiz: 2 pretty easy, 1 goofy

In the spirit of "listing" wildlife I've seen this year, a quiz

from the photos I took at Merced NWR (California) last month:

Bird #1: who am I?

Phriday photo, photo quiz answer, & bird ID CORRECTION

Winter wall, Yosemite Falls.

1. 'Cause I just want to look at something else.

2. The photo quiz (shot in Joshua Tree NP):

male

easy birding photo quiz + when your friends are silly...

Easy if you've ever encountered this creature before.

First time I did I almost passed out. STUNNING creature.

Not stunning shots, but good enough for ID.

bird one:

bird two:

photo quiz: check this buck out

What do you think this posture means, re: this buck's current focus?

He walked around with his head straight out like this (and lower) for a while.

You can learn a lot from body language in many species besides our own,

so it's nice to pick some of these things up whilst ogling wildlife.

Please submit guesses in the usual way (comments),

and you are, as ever, welcome to fling guesses wildly,

without a thought about consequence.

And here's a bonus shot, just for fun. Cutie, eh?

=) Good luck!
